Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Volunteer drivers provide FREE transportation for any Jasper County Veteran needing a ride to a medically necessary appointment. The veteran must have no other means of transportation. The Volunteer drivers will transport RIDE clients to Des Moines, Iowa City, Marshalltown, Knoxville and other surrounding towns, as well as to appointments in Newton.
To be eligible to use this free service, the veteran must first contact the RSVP office and speak with the transportation coordinator. A very basic enrollment and agreement form must be completed prior to scheduling RIDE's. If the Veterans DD 214 is not on file with the Jasper County Veterans Affairs office, a copy of it will need to be submitted with your enrollment forms. Once the veteran is enrolled as a RIDE client, he/she may begin scheduling RIDE's. It is important to remember that all RIDE requests MUST be made at least one week in advance of the medically necessary appointment.
While this is a free service offered to veterans, RSVP drivers are reimbursed for their mileage. This is made possible in collaboration with the Veterans Affairs of Jasper County. All volunteer drivers must pass a background check, maintain a good driving record, have a valid driver's license and have current automobile insurance.
Any veteran or qualified dependent who; provides false information, is reimbursed for a trip by any other organization, or provides an uncomfortable environment for authorized volunteers, may be refused transportation by this program at any time.
