Getting married? Congratulations!

Did you know that prior to getting married in the state of Iowa, you are required to apply for a marriage license? And, failure to do so is punishable by law?

It is the most important "first step" in the marriage process. Getting a license months or weeks before the ceremony can prevent a lot of unnecessary stress on top of an already stressful time.

Obtaining a license at the Jasper County Recorder's office is quick and easy!

For more information please visit https://bit.ly/JasperCoMarriageLicense or call the Jasper County, IA Recorder's office at 641-792-5442, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

The County Road Department is starting to get snow equipment ready! Preparing blades, sanders and checking for bad fittings and leaks. It can be a long season, and that’s why we're getting ready early and doing our preventive maintenance ahead of time.

We'd also like to remind you that with harvest season upon us, large farm equipment is on the move. We've put together a list of seven things that you can do when you meet farm equipment on the road.

  1. Be alert and cautious. And give large farm equipment and other slow-moving vehicles space.
  2. Do not pass if you are in a space designated as a “No Passing Zone” or in any area that is not safe to do so—intersections, bridges and railroad crossings, among others.
  3. Make sure the tractor isn’t trying to make a left turn before you pass on the left.
  4. Expect farm equipment to take wider turns and even have to use both lanes at times.
  5. Don’t tailgate. Give yourself space between your vehicle and the slow-moving vehicle ahead of you.
  6. Don’t assume the farmer knows you’re there.
  7. Be careful when you do get the chance to pass. Often, farmers will move their equipment over when it is safe to do so.

Please, slow down. Let’s all get home safely this harvest season.
